At Pitton Cross Farm, we don’t just allow pets — we welcome them like family. Guests often tell us we’re the most dog-friendly place they’ve ever stayed, thanks to our enclosed gardens, private outdoor spaces, and 1.5-acre dog park. We want them to feel just as welcome as you are, and the reason we do not charge a separate pet fee. As lifelong beagle owners (and adopters of four rescues from Many Tears), we’ve designed everything with real pets in mind — from stable doors and easy-clean interiors to enclosed spaces for reactive dogs. And while most of our visitors wag their tails, cats are very welcome too. If you’re looking for a holiday where your pets feel as at home as you do, you’ve found it. Below, you will find everything to make your holiday with your pet extra special: why pets love us, handy suggestions for exploring the area with your dog, ideas for fun activities and a few simple house rules to keep everyone happy and safe.

One of the biggest frustrations guests tell us about other “pet-friendly” places is that the outdoor spaces aren’t truly ‘enclosed’ — often fencing with gaps that smaller dogs (or adventurous cats) can slip straight through. or no fencing at all! Owners end up having to stand outside every time their pets want fresh air or to relieve themselves, which isn’t much of a holiday for anyone.

That’s why we’ve made this a priority here at Pitton Cross Farm. From fully enclosed gardens to fenced fields and patios, our spaces are designed so you can relax knowing your pets are safe and comfortable.

The Farmhouse – private garden (with stair gate inside, to manage access to carpeted areas)

Lots of places now advertise themselves as “dog friendly,” but having our own dogs means we truly understand what makes a holiday work for both pets and their people. Over the years we’ve had six beagles (four adopted from Many Tears Animal Rescue), so we’ve experienced everything from nervous rescues to reactive personalities. That experience has shaped how we’ve designed our cottages.

Every dog arriving at Pitton Cross Farm also receives a welcome box, which includes:

A bowl, blanket, and towel
A few extra poo bags
A welcome treat
Plus, we have spares available – like beds, leads, and collars – if you forget anything

While most of our guests bring dogs, cats are very much part of the Pitton Cross Farm family. We know cats settle best with their own familiar things, so we recommend bringing their usual kit — such as a litter tray, carrier, food, and a favourite blanket or toy.

Our cottages provide sunny windowsills, cosy corners, and secure indoor and outdoor spaces, so your cat can relax safely while still feeling part of the holiday fun.

If you happen to forget something, just let us know — we often have spare essentials on hand to make sure every pet is comfortable.

We want every pet and person to have a safe and enjoyable holiday. Please:

Pick up after your pets and use the bins provided
Keep barking to a minimum
Supervise pets when outdoors

We know some dogs are comfortable being left alone for short periods, while others aren’t. We trust owners to know their dogs best. If you do leave your dog unattended, please let us know so we are aware in case of any distress or disturbance – this helps us ensure all guests enjoy their stay.

Set on 12 acres of beautiful countryside, our 1.5-acre dog park is a paradise for pups! Fully fenced, it features an agility area, a dog run, bridge, tyres, a sand pit, and plenty of space to run, roam, and chase balls — all with stunning coastline and countryside views.

For dogs who prefer a quieter spot, Tucker’s Park is a smaller, fully enclosed area where they can relax if the main park is busy.

Some surrounding fields are occasionally used for farming, but when free, we’ll let you know so your dog can enjoy even more space. All fields are clearly signposted, and in the future we plan to expand with additional secure areas like Tucker’s Park.

Gower is full of incredible beaches, rolling countryside, and scenic coastal paths — perfect for adventures with your dog. While there are seasonal restrictions on some beaches, we’re lucky to be close to many where your dog can roam freely.

It’s important to follow the Countryside Code wherever you go: keep your dog on a lead when required, respect livestock, and be mindful of wildlife and neighbouring properties. Sadly, we often hear of incidents where dogs off-lead have injured lambs, chickens, or even got into neighbours’ gardens — so responsible walking keeps everyone safe and happy.

Below we’ve listed some favourite dog-friendly beaches and walks to explore, all within easy reach of Pitton Cross Farm. The closest beaches to the farm are the first four listed below. They are dog-friendly year-round, with a few suggestions for places to eat while visiting. Mewslade Bay

Mewslade is a Walking Distance from the Farm and will take you approximately 25 minutes. If you choose to walk via the fields of the farm, you will need to climb over 2 stiles with your dog. An alternative route is via the village of Pitton, without any stiles and will take approximately 30 minutes.

Please click the Walks From The Farm Front Door section in the digital guide for a Map and Walking Instructions to Mewslade and other walks suitable for exploring the local area. The Gower Walks section will offer walks further afield and please follow the Countryside Code at all times.

Check the Tide Times to ensure the beach is accessible and be aware there is a bit of a climb down to it via a stone gulley. Should the tide be in, the beach will not be accessible. When it is out, you can enjoy an expansive stretch of golden sand, hidden coves and rock pools. You will also be able to walk across to Fall Bay too!

Rhossili

Offering 3 miles of sand and a steep walk down to it, this will certainly wear you and the pups out! Enjoy lunch or a cup of coffee afterwards at The View, who allow dogs inside – great for a rainy day – or all other food establishments allow dogs on the patio only.

Port Eynon/Horton

Port Eynon is dog friendly from the main steps by the lifeguard tower, west to the Salthouse. Left from the lifeguard tower – is Horton beach, which is not dog-friendly during May – Sept.

You could incorporate lunch at the Ship or Smugglers into the day, which are both dog friendly, or grab a bag of chips from the chip shop!

Oxwich Bay

The Oxwich Bay Hotel is dog friendly in the bar/cwtch area and offer a place to grab a coffee or lunch afterwards.

While Gower’s beaches and countryside are perfect for active adventures, there are also plenty of attractions where your dog is welcome to join the fun. Here are some local spots that embrace canine companions:

Gower Heritage Centre: A family-friendly rural life museum set around a 12th-century water-powered mill. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the site, except in the tearooms and animal park.
The National Showcaves Centre for Wales (Dan-yr-Ogof): Explore one of Wales’ top attractions featuring three impressive caves, a Shire horse centre, and dinosaur models. Dogs are allowed on a short lead and must be kept under control.
Swansea Market: Wales’ largest indoor market, offering a variety of local produce and goods. Since 2021 well-behaved dogs have been welcome, provided they are kept on a lead and adhere to the market’s ‘doggy rules’.
Mumbles Pier: A charming Victorian pier offering scenic views and a leisurely walk. Dogs are welcome on the pier and the adjacent promenade, making it a pleasant outing for both you and your pet.
